These IDs identify the Broadcom wireless hardware involved in the issue.
The issue may have one or more of the following symptoms:
- Wi-Fi is unavailable after installing Windows 7 64-bit.
- Device Manager lists Network Controller with a yellow exclamation mark.
- Windows reports that the driver is missing.
- Installing an apparently compatible Broadcom driver produces Update.cpp 1205.
- Manual driver installation may result in Code 28 – The drivers for this device are not installed.
- Windows may report that the requested device registry key does not exist.
Troubleshooting steps
1: Verify the wireless adapter
- Press Windows + R.
- Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
- Expand Network adapters.
- If the wireless adapter is not listed, look under Other devices.
- Locate Network Controller or the Broadcom wireless device with a yellow exclamation mark.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Select the Details tab.
- From the Property drop-down menu, select Hardware Ids.
- Confirm that the hardware ID corresponds to the Broadcom device, such as:
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4365&SUBSYS_804A103C.
2: Remove an incorrectly installed driver
If a previous Broadcom driver installation has failed:
- In Device Manager, right-click the Broadcom wireless device or Network Controller.
- Select Uninstall.
- If available, select Delete the driver software for this device.
- Click OK.
- Restart the notebook.
Removing the failed driver before attempting the correct package can prevent Windows from continuing to use an incorrect or incomplete driver installation.
3: Install the correct Broadcom wireless driver
Use the Broadcom wireless LAN driver package listed for the HP ENVY 15-ae000 Notebook PC and Windows 7 rather than relying on a generic Broadcom driver.
you can download this driver sp70888.exe, from driver listed on the HP ENVY 15-ae000 support page worked successfully for the affected hardware.
4: If the installer does not work, manually install the driver
If running the SoftPaq produces Update.cpp 1205 or the installer does not complete:
- Run the SoftPaq to extract its contents.
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click Network Controller.
- Select Update Driver.
- Select Browse my computer for driver software.
- Browse to the extracted driver folder.
- Enable Include subfolders.
- Click Next.
- Allow Windows to install the matching driver.
- Restart the notebook.
The original troubleshooting used this approach with the extracted driver files.
5: Verify the installation
After restarting:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Confirm that the Broadcom wireless adapter is listed without a yellow exclamation mark.
- Right-click the adapter and select Properties.
- Check the Device status on the General tab.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and verify that available wireless networks are displayed.
- Connect to a wireless network and test Internet connectivity.
If the problem persists
If the driver still does not install:
- Confirm that Windows 7 64-bit is installed.
- Recheck the Hardware Ids in Device Manager.
- Remove the existing Broadcom driver completely.
- Restart the notebook.
- Install the driver package specifically intended for the HP ENVY 15-ae000/15t-ae-series hardware.
- Restart again.
- Check Device Manager for the wireless adapter.
- If the adapter is still missing, run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to determine whether the wireless hardware is detected.
