- Can’t hear any sound from my computer. What should I do ?
Question
I can’t hear any music from my computer. My sound isn’t working in Windows.
No audio at all from YouTube videos, music/media players, Windows system sounds, etc.
Can you help ?
Answer
- The first troubleshooting step you should try is to restart your computer. Sometimes a single application can take control of your sound device and not let any other apps use it, but you can release that control by restarting.
Here are a few other steps you can try if the problem persists after restarting
- Run the audio troubleshooting toolin Windows
- Try connecting headphones or a set of external speakers and see if you can hear sound from them
- Open Control Panel -> Sound
Set the default sound device to make sure your computer is sending audio output to the correct device - If your computer came with Windows 10 or 8.1 installed, you can restore the original sound driver in HP Recovery Manager, or HP PCs - Device Manager Information (Windows 10, 11 )
- If you upgraded your computer to Windows 10, you can update the HP Notebook PCs - Advanced sound troubleshooting in Windows 10
- Hard reset your notebook
** These solutions and more are explained in detail in this HP guided troubleshooter => http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=soundweb.net&as=true§ion=social&sfs=forum

Since I first purchased my HP Laptop, I have had 6 major cases I've had to open due to sound issues. I have had to do a cloud-based restart wiping my computer and reloading my files and formatting my computer 5 different times, at least. I have to re-upload my drivers, BIOS, and run many trouble shooting errors, all of which IT asks me to start my process over in the beginning refusing to look or record sufficient notes about what has occurred. I even had my HP sent into the Support Center for 2 months, with no clear indication of what work they did, for all I know they only performed the same exact processes, I was asked to repeat from a remote communication chat with IT. I am incredible frustrated and concerned about the legitimacy of this product as I approach the end of my warranty period meaning I will no longer get support once it ends. It seems ridiculous that every few weeks my computer loses sound abilities and in a different way every-time, and even more infuriating that no one seems to legitimately listen to my concerns, rather I get ignored and told that I must start the process over, and assurance that THIS time, the same thing I did last time will work. For anyone looking for a "solution" while a long-term one hasn't been made available to me, it seems the short term resolution comes from restoring factory settings with an HP Cloud Recovery, a copy of the steps can be found on HP's site.
