- HP 250 G3 Notebook PC - Replacement of Module Ralink RT3290 ...
The HP 250 G3 Notebook PC may want to replace the Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth module due to Bluetooth issues, wireless connectivity limitations, or to upgrade to a dual-band wireless adapter.
The HP 250 G3 Notebook PC may be equipped with a Ralink RT3290 wireless card. Users seeking improved wireless performance or Bluetooth functionality can replace the module with a compatible wireless adapter. However, successful upgrades depend on the processor type and the notebook's antenna configuration. Systems with only one antenna may experience limited Bluetooth or 5 GHz Wi‑Fi functionality after the upgrade.
Troubleshooting Steps
1. Verify the Existing Wireless Card
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters.
- Confirm the installed adapter is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn.
2. Check Processor Compatibility
Before replacing the WLAN module:
- If the notebook has an Intel Core processor, a compatible upgrade option is the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.
- If the notebook has a Pentium or Celeron processor, a compatible alternative is the Broadcom BCM4352.
3. Verify Antenna Configuration
- Power off the notebook.
- Access the WLAN card compartment.
- Check whether the notebook has:
- One antenna cable (Main), or
- Two antenna cables (Main and Aux).
Note: The second antenna is used to improve Wi‑Fi reception and support full wireless functionality.
4. Replace the Wireless Module
- Shut down the computer.
- Disconnect AC power.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Remove the existing Ralink RT3290 card.
- Install the replacement wireless card.
- Connect the available antenna cable(s).
- Reassemble the notebook.
- Install the appropriate wireless and Bluetooth drivers.
5. If Bluetooth or 5 GHz Wi‑Fi Does Not Work
If the upgraded wireless card is recognized but:
- Bluetooth does not function correctly, or
- 5 GHz wireless networks are not detected,
verify whether only one antenna is connected.
