HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer might display error code 0xB87350BC shortly after startup. The printer can initially power on normally, but after a short period it enters an error state with flashing lights and the control panel might stop responding.
Power cycling or disconnecting the printer temporarily might not resolve the condition.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Reset the printer power

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait before reconnecting the printer.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a working wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer if it does not start automatically.
  • Allow the printer to finish its startup sequence and check whether the error returns.
If the error returns shortly after startup, continue with the following checks.

2. Check for jammed paper or foreign objects

A physical obstruction can prevent normal printer operation.
  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Remove loose paper from the input and output trays.
  • Check the input tray for jammed paper, torn pieces of paper, labels, or foreign objects.
  • Check the output tray and accessible paper path.
  • Use a flashlight to check carefully for small pieces of torn paper.
  • Remove visible obstructions carefully.
  • Reconnect the printer and turn it on.
Do not force paper or printer components while checking the paper path.

3. Check the cartridge access area

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Check the cartridge area for packing material, pieces of paper, or other obstructions.
  • Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly.
  • Close the cartridge access door securely.
  • Restart the printer and check whether the error returns.

4. Check the ink cartridges

Cartridge-related conditions can prevent normal printer operation.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove each cartridge carefully.
  • Inspect the cartridges for visible damage.
  • Check that protective material or tape has been removed from replacement cartridges.
  • Reinstall the cartridges securely in their correct slots.
  • Close the cartridge access door.
  • Restart the printer.
If the printer identifies a specific cartridge as incompatible, missing, or failed, troubleshoot that cartridge condition before continuing.

5. Disconnect external connections

To isolate the printer from connected devices:
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the USB cable if one is connected.
  • Leave the printer connected only to power.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Allow startup to complete without sending a print job.
If the same error appears while the printer is operating independently of the computer, continue with the remaining printer troubleshooting.

6. Check HP software and drivers

For Windows 10, use the software and drivers provided for the HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer on HP Support.
Select the correct Windows version before downloading or reinstalling available printer software or drivers.
If the printer's control panel becomes unresponsive before Windows communicates with the printer, prioritize resolving the printer-side error first.

7. Check the printer after each step

After each troubleshooting step:
  • Restart the printer.
  • Allow it to complete initialization.
  • Leave the printer powered on briefly.
  • Check whether 0xB87350BC returns.
  • Check whether the lights begin flashing or the control panel becomes unresponsive.
This helps determine whether the condition is occurring during printer initialization rather than during a print job.
