Troubleshooting Steps
1: Check for High CPU Usage
A background application or Windows process may be increasing CPU activity and causing the cooling fan to run at higher speeds.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Select the Processes tab.
Review CPU utilization.
Identify applications consuming excessive CPU resources.
Close unnecessary programs.
Restart the notebook and monitor fan behavior.
2: Update Windows
Windows updates frequently include performance, power management, and thermal management improvements.
Open Settings.
Select Windows Update.
Click Check for updates.
Install all available updates.
Restart the computer.
3: Update BIOS
HP periodically releases BIOS updates that improve thermal management and system stability.
Visit HP Customer Support.
Search for your notebook model.
Download the latest BIOS update if available.
Install the update following HP instructions.
Restart the notebook.
Ensure the AC adapter is connected throughout the BIOS update process.
4: Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
Check for hardware-related thermal or fan issues.
Turn off the computer.
Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc.
Press F2 to start HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
Run:

5: Optimize Thermal Profile Using HP Command Center
If supported on your HP notebook:
Open HP Command Center.

6: Adjust Windows Power Settings

Open Task Manager.

8: Improve Airflow and Cooling
Use the notebook on a hard, flat surface.
Ensure all air vents are unobstructed.
