The HP Stream 7 tablet running Windows 8.1 may experience excessive battery drain, resulting in:

  • Battery lasting less than 2 hours.
  • Battery discharging rapidly even while the tablet is in Sleep/Suspend mode.
  • Tablet losing most or all of its charge overnight despite being fully charged.

Troubleshooting steps

Disable unnecessary Windows services and startup items that continue to consume power in the background.

1: Disable Realtek Audio Manager Startup

  1. Open Task Manager.
  2. Locate RealTek Audio Manager.
  3. Disable it from Startup.
  4. Do not disable the RealTek audio driver.

2: Disable Intel DPTF Service

  1. Open Services in Windows.
  2. Locate Intel DPTF LPM Service Helper.
  3. Stop the service.
  4. Set the service to Disabled.

Note: Simply disabling an item in Task Manager may not be sufficient. If the corresponding Windows service is set to Automatic, disable the service from the Services console as well.

3: Disable Unused Windows Services and Features

Disable the following if they are not required:

  • Remote Desktop (all related services)
  • Windows Search (Indexing)
  • Update app features
  • Fax
  • AppReadiness
  • Remote Registry
  • Remote Access
  • Windows Update
  • HomeGroup functions and services

The post also notes that other unused features, such as BitLocker, may be disabled if they are not needed.

4: Restart the Tablet

Restart the HP Stream 7 after disabling the services for the changes to take effect.
