- How to perform a clean windows installation on an HP Laptop
If you are looking to perform a clean install of Windows 11 on your HP laptop, follow these steps:
Step 1: Backup Important Data
Before you begin, ensure that all important data is backed up, as this process will erase everything on your computer drive.
Step 2: Verify System Requirements
Ensure your laptop meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11:
- Compatible 64-bit CPU with a speed of at least 1GHz and at least two cores
- 4 GB or more of RAM
- 64 GB or more of system storage
- UEFI with Secure Boot capability
- TPM 2.0
- DirectX 12 compatible graphics card with WDDM 2.0 driver
- Monitor with at least 720p resolution
- Internet connection
Step 3: Create a Bootable USB Drive
- Get a blank USB drive with at least 8GB of space.
- On another computer, download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website.
- Run the Media Creation Tool and follow the instructions to make the USB drive bootable.
Note: Any existing content on the USB drive will be deleted during this process.
Step 4: Change Boot Order in BIOS/UEFI
- Insert the bootable USB drive into your HP laptop.
- Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing a key such as F2, F10, or DEL during the boot process (refer to your laptop’s manual for specifics).
- Navigate to the Boot menu to prioritize booting from the USB drive.
- Save the changes and exit.
Step 5: Install Windows 11
- Your laptop should boot from the USB drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the Windows 11 installation.
- Opt for "Custom Install" to perform a clean install.
- Select the drive for installation (this will erase content on that drive).
Note: Ensure all data on the selected drive is backed up.
- Click "Next" to start the installation process. The laptop may restart several times during this phase.
Step 6: Complete the Installation
- After installation, configure region, language, keyboard layout, and other preferences as prompted.
- Once Windows 11 is set up, ensure all necessary updates and drivers are installed via Windows Update and HP Support Assistant.
