- Manually Updating the Latest HD Graphics Driver from Intel.....
This article will explain how to update the Intel HD graphics driver on the above platform to the latest driver directly from Intel.
This works for both notebook and desktop PCs with the onboard Intel graphics adapter.
Look at the Intel driver file link in this article under the 'This download is valid for the product(s) listed below,' section for the complete list of supported processors and/or graphics adapters.
Important note: If your PC has the switchable Intel/Nvidia or Intel/AMD graphics, this may cause issues with the discrete graphics adapter, based on the feedback from one of the comments at the bottom of this article. If your notebook has a switchable graphics configuration, update the Intel graphics driver at your own risk.
Background...Many of us like to have the latest graphics drivers installed, and we may even find some programs will not work unless there is a certain version graphics driver installed.
However, when you download and run the latest Intel graphics driver, you are usually met with an error that states in substance that you need to use the customized Intel graphics driver from the PC's manufacturer.
Here is how to get around that error...
First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027538/windows-create-a-system-restore-point
Next, download and save the latest Intel HD graphics driver 64-bit ZIP file from the link below. This is the last driver update Intel released for the 6th gen core processor graphics:
Intel® 6th-10th Gen Processor Graphics - Windows
Unzip the graphics driver file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.
To unzip the file, right click on the graphics driver zip file you downloaded and select Extract All.
Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have Disk and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.
Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.
When the installation is finished, restart the PC.
To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.
Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.
Then restart the PC.

Ok, here is the problem with this work around. Now the secondary video card is not addressed.
I got a message when starting Adobe programs, You are using an older driver and may have performance issues.
Yep, I did the direct install, no message from the Adobe program but now the Nvidia card does not switch over and my game performance suffers.

I updated with the latest driver from Intel using Intel Driver Support assistant but graphics all had diagonal lines through them so looks like a bug in the 620 drivers had to roll back to the previous driver. Anyone else seeing this? My notebook is the HP 250 G7 i5.

I suppose this would not work on older laptops, like the HP Pavilion DV6-2155dx? If I'm not mistaken, it's a first-generation i3 330M chipset

You can update the Intel graphics driver to the last version offered by Intel for the DV6-2155dx, only if you are running W7.
If you want the instructions to do that, start a new post in the notebook video forum, and I will give you the driver link to do that with.

I would also recommend that AFTER you install the driver via the .INF file, run the full installer AGAIN (igxpin.exe) and this time it will also update the Intel HD Audio (HDMI) driver. This is not updated when you ONLY choose the .INF file from the Graphics folder.

These driver installation instructions worked perfectly until the "new" HP approved drivers were auto-installed via Windows Update last week. The version number of the latest HP driver is 26.20.100.7810 and the driver date is 21/1/2020.
Of course I tried to re-install Intel reference driver .7985 again going through these steps, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible anymore. After installing the new reference driver the HP approved driver force-installs itself instantaneously and the driver in device manager returns back to .7810.
I even went so far as using the display driver cleaner utility to clean up all Intel driver traces from the system, and that let me install newest Intel reference driver for a while. But the next time Windows scheduled update started it replaced these drivers with HP approved (quite obsolete) drivers again.
Any advice on how to proceed with this?

The only suggestion I can offer for that issue would be to uninstall the Windows Update graphics driver, restart the PC and run the Hide Windows Update utility from the link below, which will hopefully find the update and then you can check the box to hide the update and that will prevent it from installing again unless you run the hide windows update utility again and uncheck the update.

Why does HP make it so inconvenient to update to the newest graphics drivers?

I am having trouble updating to Win 10 2004 and some people suspect it is the UHD driver as detailed above. I have run Driver Verifier on the latest Intel Graphics Driver and got a BSOD on 1909, so am now testing with the Intel driver dated Jun 12 from the HP drivers site. So far no BSOD with Driver verifier. Just for Info.

This is still the most reliable article to update your Graphics Driver. HP notifies me to update my latest graphics driver. But, doing the automatic update unto them wouldn't work compared to this. 👍👍

This fix looks old and it is now September of 2023, will it still work if I can even understand it? I have trouble with things like this since COVID and it seems overwhelming. It just started giving me issues when Adobe did its most recent update. I can't afford nor do I want a new computer. Why doesn't it auto update like other drivers? I agree with the comment of why does HP make this so difficult.

Hi Paul,
I followed your guide and it worked perfectly.
I immediately got a notice that there is a further update to the driver you directed us to....that new driver from Intel is version 31.0.101.2125
Is it safe to install this driver?
I appreciate your help!
Brent

Hi, I know this is an old post so likely nobody will see it.
I am just trying to follow the steps mentioned by Paul but I'm having an issue finding the 'extract all' button. It says 'extract here', 'extract files' and 'extract to gfx_win_101.2115'. I have no idea around a computer so I'm not sure how to get round this to the next stage .I looked it up and I have deleted win zip, I deleted winrar also but then the 'extract' option completely disappeared so I downloaded it again and restarted my computer. I did try double left clicking on the file and it gave me the option to install, however as I don't know what I'm doing, I don't want to break the computer [as it feels to easy just to press install when they're so many stages listed above]. Hopefully this makes sense and any help would be greatly appreciated?
