Recovery Issue on HP Spectre x360 14 Convertible Laptop PC

This issue occurs when your HP Spectre x360 14 Convertible Laptop PC fails to boot into Windows, displaying an error related to an unverified digital signature.

This often happens when the operating system cannot verify the integrity of the files in the boot process.

Description

On attempting to boot up, the laptop displays a blue screen with the message:

Recovery

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified.

You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.

This message indicates a problem with the digital signature verification of a critical file needed for booting Windows.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Boot Into Recovery Mode:

    • If you have a recovery USB drive or can borrow one, insert it into the laptop and restart your computer.
    • Boot from the USB drive and select "Repair your computer."

  2. Use Startup Repair:

    • From the recovery environment, choose "Troubleshoot," then "Advanced options," and select "Startup Repair."
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to let Windows attempt to fix the boot issue.

  3. Command Prompt:

    • If startup repair doesn't work, use the "Command Prompt" from the Advanced options menu.
    • Run commands like bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, and bootrec /scanos to attempt repair of the boot configuration.

  4. BIOS Update:

    • Download and install the HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) Version: F.07 Revision: A from the HP website. Download SoftPaq.
    • After downloading, follow the instructions to update your BIOS.

  5. Secure Boot Settings:

    • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing Esc or F10 as the computer boots up.
    • Navigate to the Boot or Security section and disable "Secure Boot."
    • Save changes and exit.
