A jumpy or erratic cursor while charging can be related to power/grounding behavior, the charger, connected accessories, docking devices, or firmware/BIOS behavior.

Generic troubleshooting steps

  1. Test with and without the charger

    • Unplug the charger and check whether the cursor becomes normal.
    • If the issue happens only while charging, the charging setup is likely involved.

  2. Check the charger and power source

    • Use the original HP charger designed for your notebook.
    • Try a different wall outlet.
    • Avoid overloaded power strips or adapters if possible.

  3. Disconnect external accessories

    • Unplug any USB devices, docks, external keyboard/mouse, and monitor connections.
    • Then test again while charging.
    • HP notes BIOS fixes for issues where the keyboard or mouse becomes jumpy and delayed in the BIOS menu when connecting the D6000 dock and where a monitor may fail after resume with the HP USB-C Dock G5.

  4. If you use a dock, test without it

    • Connect the charger directly to the laptop.
    • If using an HP dock or D6000 dock, disconnect it and retest.

  5. Update BIOS and drivers

    • HP states that updated BIOS versions were released for several 2021 HP notebook platforms to address jumpy/delayed keyboard or mouse behavior and other stability issues.
    • Download updates from HP Software and Driver Downloads after checking your exact model.

  6. Check HP Accessory Center settings if using HP accessories

    • If your issue involves an external HP mouse/keyboard, make sure HP Accessory Center is installed and updated.
    • HP also recommends ensuring the accessory is shown as Connected, not just paired.

  7. Test with another pointing device

    • Try the built-in touchpad only.
    • Then test with an external USB/Bluetooth mouse separately to isolate whether the problem is with the touchpad, mouse, or charging environment.

  8. Restart and test in BIOS

    • A restart can clear temporary input issues.
    • If the cursor/input is jumpy even in BIOS, that points more toward firmware, power, or hardware interaction.

Possible reasons

  • Charger or grounding/power noise issue
  • Dock-related input delay/jitter
  • Outdated BIOS/firmware
  • Accessory software/connection issue
  • External device interference
