If the touchpad is not working on your HP notebook, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Turn the Touchpad Off and On

Some touchpads can be turned on or off by double-tapping in the upper-left corner:

  • Double-tap the upper-left corner of the touchpad to turn it off.
  • Repeat to turn the touchpad on.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

To clear any temporary memory issues that may be affecting the touchpad:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove all external devices except the mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the computer.

3. Test the Touchpad in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

Run diagnostics to test the touchpad functionality:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the esc key repeatedly.
  3. On the displayed menu, press the f2 key.
  4. Click on Component Tests, select Mouse/Touchpad, and run the test.

4. Run Windows Update

Ensure your device’s drivers and operating system are up-to-date:

  1. Search for and open "Check for updates" in Windows.
  2. Install any available updates, including optional ones.
  3. Restart your computer if prompted.

5. Perform a Windows System Reset

If none of the steps above work, consider resetting your computer to its original configuration:
