- Poly Voyager Focus 2 – Low Microphone Volume When Connected ...
The microphone input volume is very low when a Poly Voyager Focus 2 headset is connected through the BT700 Bluetooth adapter, while microphone volume is normal when the headset is connected directly through USB.
Other users may have difficulty hearing the speaker during calls because the microphone input level remains very low even when Windows input volume is set to 100.
The issue may have one or more of the following symptoms:
- Microphone input is significantly lower when using the BT700.
- Microphone works normally when the headset is connected through USB.
- Windows microphone input volume is already set to 100.
- Other participants have difficulty hearing the user during calls.
- Changing the microphone boom position may temporarily improve the microphone level.
- Firmware updates, Bluetooth re-pairing, and device reinstallation may not resolve the issue.
Troubleshooting steps
1: Connect the BT700 Directly to the Computer
- Disconnect the BT700 from the docking station, USB hub, monitor, or other intermediate device.
- Connect the BT700 directly to a USB port on the computer.
- If possible, use a direct USB-A port on the computer.
- Pair the Voyager Focus 2 headset with the BT700.
- Test the microphone again.
Important: Avoid connecting the BT700 through:
- Docking stations
- USB hubs
- Monitor USB ports
- Other USB adapters or intermediate devices
2: Verify Windows Microphone Settings
- Open Settings.
- Select System > Sound.
- Under Input, select Poly BT700 Hands-Free AG Audio or the corresponding Poly communications device.
- Verify that the input volume is set to 100.
- Open the advanced sound settings.
- Verify that the BT700 is selected as the Default Communications Device.
- Test the microphone.
These settings help ensure that Windows is using the BT700 as the active communications input device.
3: Check Poly Studio App Settings
- Open the Poly Studio app.
- Select the Voyager Focus 2 headset.
- Review the microphone-related settings.
- Check settings such as:
- Acoustic Fence
- NoiseBlockAI
- Voice alerts
- Test the microphone with the relevant processing features enabled and disabled.
If microphone processing changes the input level, determine which configuration provides the best microphone performance.
5: Test the BT700 on Another Computer
To determine whether the issue is specific to the computer:
- Connect the BT700 directly to another Windows computer.
- Pair the Voyager Focus 2 headset.
- Open Windows Voice Recorder.
- Make a short recording.
- Play back the recording and compare the microphone level with the original computer.
If the microphone works normally on another computer, the issue is likely related to the original computer's USB connection or audio configuration.
6: Compare USB and BT700 Connections
Create two test recordings:
- Connect the headset directly through USB and record a sample.
- Connect the headset through the BT700 and record another sample.
- Compare the two recordings.
If the BT700 recording is significantly quieter while the USB recording is normal, the problem is likely occurring in the Bluetooth/BT700 audio path rather than in the headset microphone itself.
Additional Information to Check
If the issue persists, collect the following information:
- Voyager Focus 2 firmware version
- BT700 firmware version
- Whether the issue occurs in all applications
- Microsoft Teams
- Zoom
- Webex
- Windows Voice Recorder
- Whether the microphone works normally when paired directly with a smartphone
- Whether the BT700 is connected directly to the PC or through a docking station/hub
This information can help determine whether the issue is related to the headset, BT700, computer, USB connection, or a specific application.
