Hello,

we would like to buy one poly real connect license to use with our poly devices and teams meeting.

I've been reading a bit around the internet and it looks very good. 

But I have some questions that need to be answered before I can go ahead with the purchase and I would like to have some info from current users, the most important question is question no 2.

 

 

1: Once poly connect is set up, everybody in the company will get a VCID, is the ID always the same or change per meeting?
2: Can we forward Teams meeting from other company that does not have a VCID to our Poly device and poly real connect? 

3: Is the license tight to a specific device or if we have more than one poly device we can use the service with all of them?

Uwe gave good advice.  I'm just another end user customer and can add the following:

 

1: Once poly connect is set up, everybody in the company will get a VCID, is the ID always the same or change per meeting?

^^ The ID is generated on the MSFT teams side of the game. So it normally will change with every meeting being set up. If you generate a meeting series, the ID will be the same for all scheduled meetings of the meeting series.There is no "fixed ID" for a specific room or endpoint.

 

Agreed.  Once you have the licenses - the setup is done by the customer.  It involves the use of PowerShell to give that VCID to all staff.  The instructions are all online.  But don't be surprised if it takes a number of attempts to get it right.  But eventually you will. 


2: Can we forward Teams meeting from other company that does not have a VCID to our Poly device and poly real connect? 

^^ No this will, most probably, not work. Only people with realconnect licenses associated will have the additional H232/SIP information published in their invite. If the other company does not have realconnect or any other CVI in place, the invite will not have the needed info included and your endpoint will not be able to show the "Join" button or allow you to dial in manully - meaning you´ll not be able to join. If they have, then you´ll be fine and your endpoint will be able to connect.

 

Agreed.  However, if you receive an outside Zoom invitation - you may be able to sling it over to a Poly room system.  But, you must also setup Poly One Touch Dial (OTD) which is free.  And you must purchase a Zoom H323 Room license.  And even then, it isn't easy to get this to work.  Bottom line - room systems favor the company that creates the meetings and own the licenses.  Outside invitations are much harder to deal with.  Again, depending on the ecosystem, you might get lucky. 

 

3: Is the license tight to a specific device or if we have more than one poly device we can use the service with all of them?

^^ No, it´s not tight to an endpoint and you can think of it as a license pool. For the time a H323 / SIP endpoint is connected to one of your scheduled conferenes, it uses one of the licenses. As soon as the endpoint disconnects, this license will be free and available again from the pool for another machine.

Agreed.  It's a license pool.  So, for instance, you might buy 1 RealConnect license for 3 Rooms.  You might get 3 licenses for 6 rooms.  There is an added benefit to getting 6 licenses for, say, 10 rooms, because that's the magic number where surge increases are provided.  But if you only have 1 or 2 rooms - you can start with 1 RealConnect license.  I'd advise a Zoom H323 license if you want the room to be a little more heterogeneous.
