Cartridges were low. Replaced with new HP 902 cartridges and got the message that cartridges were missing or damaged. Tried all the steps recommended by Virtual Assistant and got nowhere. Tried to put back the old cartridges and the message that cartridges are missing or damaged continue

Hi @Adpoa ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already gone through some troubleshooting steps, but let's try a few more to see if we can resolve the issue:

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.
  • Reset the Printer: You can perform a reset on the printer to see if that helps. The steps for resetting the printer might vary depending on the model, so refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Make sure the contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer are clean and free from any dust or debris. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to gently clean the contacts.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer and install them if necessary. Sometimes firmware updates can fix compatibility issues with new cartridges. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check for Debris: Inspect the cartridge slots in the printer for any debris that might be obstructing the contacts or the cartridge itself. If you find any, carefully remove it.
  • Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, try using a different set of new cartridges to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridges themselves or with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
