I have changed all the new toner cartridges new ones.  When I run a test print I get only solid black on one side of the paper and grey on the other.  I have tried cleaning and aligning per the HP Smart tool to no avail.  Any Ideas?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Was the Printer working well with the previous toners?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Thank you for responding.  This was the first toner change since I got the printer.  The toner was printing fine.  I followed the steps you provided in resetting the printer but with the same results.  I am including pictures of both sides of the paper to see if maybe that might help diagnose the problem.

I tried all the steps and still the same problem.  I will contact support on Monday and see how much it will cost to send in for repair.  It might be cheaper however to purchase a different printer.  Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Sure, I was about to recommend the same.

A couple of suggestions and questions:

1. are these OEM cartridges or 3rd party?

2. Are you plugged directly into the wall. Laser printers require a clean power source and most will draw up to 10 amps during the printing process and any other high current device on the same circuit can really hamper print quality. Also any surge protectors or multi-outlet taps can kill quality.
