OK.

First make sure the printer is clean, has adequate ink that is in good condition, and passes all the print quality tests.

HP DeskJet 2600, 2700, 4100, 4800 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues

What else?

What you can do depends your Operating System / version, available tools,  on the type of content.

HP Smart - both versions for Windows or Mobile - include a number of photo tools (that can be used) to edit and adjust photos / images before printing, sharing, or saving.

Microsoft Photos offers photo editing (Adjust) tools.

Document printing options might be less robust and depend on your software / tools.  For example, there might be settings for Draft, Normal, and Best printing.

Best printing does dump more ink on the output -- sometimes the results are what you want and other times not-so-much.  Draft, Normal, and Best are not really meant to edit and adjust the actual color and print quality.

The exception to the document tool set is during an initial scan of the document content --

For example,

During Scan, HP Smart provides essentially the same Edit tools for adjusting color, intensity, and other quality settings as are available for photos / images.
