Hi @Suryawan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Shadow printing at the bottom of a page on an HP MFP178FNW printer can be caused by several issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this problem.

Check the Toner Cartridge

Shadow printing can occur if the toner cartridge is faulty or nearing the end of its life.

  • Inspect the toner cartridge for any signs of damage or leakage.
  • Replace the toner cartridge if it appears to be low or damaged.

Clean the Printer

Dirt, dust, or toner residue can cause shadowing.

  • Clean the inside of the printer with a lint-free cloth, paying special attention to the rollers and any other parts that might have accumulated toner or dust.
  • Use a can of compressed air to blow out any debris from hard-to-reach areas.

Check for Paper Quality and Type

Using the wrong type of paper can cause print quality issues.

  • Ensure you are using the recommended paper type and quality for your printer.
  • Check that the paper settings in the printer driver match the type of paper loaded in the tray.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Outdated firmware or drivers can sometimes cause print quality issues.

  • Update the printer firmware to the latest version available from the HP support website.
  • Update the printer drivers on your computer to the latest version.

Perform a Print Quality Diagnostic

Most HP printers have built-in diagnostic tools to help identify and fix print quality issues.

  • Access the printer's menu and look for a "Print Quality" or "Maintenance" option.
  • Run the Print Quality Diagnostic to check for any issues and follow the prompts to fix them.

Adjust Print Settings

Adjusting the print settings can sometimes alleviate shadow printing.

  • Go to the printer properties on your computer.
  • Adjust the print quality settings to a higher quality.
  • Ensure that Duplex (two-sided) printing is turned off if you are not using it.

Check the Fuser Assembly

The fuser assembly, which heats and bonds the toner to the paper, could be malfunctioning.

  • Inspect the fuser assembly for any signs of wear or damage.
  • If the fuser is damaged or worn out, it may need to be replaced.

Print a Configuration Page

Printing a configuration page can help determine if the problem is with the printer or the print job.

  • Print a configuration page from the printer's menu.
  • If the shadowing appears on the configuration page, the problem is likely with the printer hardware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
