I have had Instant Ink for many years. I ran out this weekend and need my printing on Monday. I went out and got cartridges from Staples. I installed them and now the quality of the prints are terrible. There are streaks and the ink is faded in many places. I already cleaned the printer to help. But, nothing worked. What can I do?

@2ndgteacher, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Print Quality Issues with HP Instant Ink!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're experiencing poor print quality after installing new cartridges from Staples, here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve the situation:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure the cartridges you bought are compatible with your printer model. Using non-compatible cartridges can lead to poor print quality.

Cartridge Installation:

  • Reinstall the new cartridges. Make sure they are securely placed in their correct position.
  • Gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and in the printer with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust or residue that might be affecting the contact.

Run Printhead Cleaning:

  • Use the printer's internal cleaning function. This can usually be done via the printer's display or printer software on your computer.
  • It might require multiple cleaning cycles to see an improvement.

Align the Printhead:

  • After cleaning, align the printhead using the printer settings menu. This ensures the cartridges are correctly positioned.

Check the Paper:

  • Use good quality paper that is suitable for your printer. Printing issues can sometimes be related to the paper quality and type.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
