I put legitimate hp ink cartridges in my printer and now it will not print.  It prints a test page just fine but still shows low ink on jobs (even though the cartridge is new and from hp)

Hi @Aimee248

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation—it’s genuinely frustrating when new cartridges don’t behave as expected.

Since your HP ENVY 6055e prints a test page but still shows low ink during regular jobs, let’s walk through a few steps that can help clear up the issue.

1. Check Cartridge Seating

Even genuine cartridges can sometimes sit slightly off.

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert both cartridges firmly.
  • Make sure they click into place without resistance.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

Dust or residue can interfere with detection.

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Let everything dry for 10 minutes before reinserting.

3. Reset the Printer

This can clear lingering detection errors.

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power on.

4. Update Firmware

Older firmware may misread ink levels.

5. Check for Instant Ink or Starter Cartridges

If the cartridges are labeled “Instant Ink” or “Starter,” they may require enrollment or have limited functionality. If they’re standard retail cartridges, this won’t apply.

6. Run Printhead Cleaning

Even if the test page prints, clogged nozzles can cause issues with regular jobs.

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.

Let me know how far you get—I’ll be here to help you through the next steps if needed.
