HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Purchased ENVY 6000e in November 2023, installed OK and worked fine on Mac SONOMA 14.1.  Did not sign up for Instant Ink as printer would be unused for five months. Shut down printer in late December, and now (May 2024) printer produces only perfectly blank sheets - as if ink is suppressed, not just running out.  Are cartridges disabled or defective, and how do I get things going ?Scott

Hi @scott07,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 6000e printer is experiencing a common issue that can occur after an extended period of inactivity: the ink cartridges may have dried out or the print heads could be clogged. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Check the ink levels: First, ensure that the ink cartridges still have ink. You can check the ink levels from the printer control panel or via the printer software on your Mac.

Perform a cleaning cycle: Use the printer’s built-in tool to clean the print heads. You can usually find this option in the printer maintenance settings on your printer or through the printer software on your computer. This process can help to unclog the ink nozzles.

  • On your Mac, open the HP printer software.
  • Select your printer, then choose “Print & Scan” or “Printers & Scanners”.
  • Click “Options & Supplies,” then go to the “Utility” tab.
  • Click “Open Printer Utility,” then look for a head cleaning or maintenance option.

Manual cleaning (if needed): If the automatic cleaning doesn’t help, you might need to manually clean the print heads. Turn off your printer and remove the ink cartridges. Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or a dedicated print head cleaner to gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the print heads in the printer. Avoid touching the nozzle area and the contacts with your fingers.

Replace the cartridges: If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, the ink in the cartridges might have dried out completely. In this case, replacing the cartridges with new ones might be necessary.

Test the printer: After cleaning or replacing the cartridges, try printing a test page to check if the issue is resolved.

Check for firmware updates: Sometimes, printer issues can be resolved through firmware updates. Check if there are any updates available for your printer model from the HP website and install them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
