It will print normal paper ie A4 with no problems but when it comes to photos we'll that's another issue. First it will not recognise there is paper in the photo paper tray and tells me there is non paper error. When I finally get it to recognise the paper I am then confronted with a paper jam error. The rollers are clean, the drivers are up to date and there is photo paper available for the printer. I am now at the end of my patience.

Hi @Neilh68,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If your HP ENVY Photo 6234 All-in-One Printer is having trouble printing photos—specifically with issues like not recognizing photo paper and encountering paper jams—despite clean rollers, updated drivers, and correct paper loading, here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:
1. Check Paper Type and Size Settings
Verify Paper Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to the settings menu and ensure that the paper type is set to "Photo Paper."
- Confirm that the paper size matches the photo paper size you are using (e.g., 4x6 inches, 5x7 inches).
Check Printer Preferences:
- On your computer, go to Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (macOS).
- Right-click on your HP ENVY Photo 6234 and select Printing Preferences.
- Ensure the correct paper type and size are selected for photo printing.
2. Inspect and Reload Photo Paper
Check Photo Paper Tray:
- Ensure that the photo paper is correctly loaded in the photo paper tray.
- Make sure the photo paper is aligned properly and not overfilled. The paper should be in a neat stack without any bends or curls.
Adjust Paper Guides:
- Ensure that the paper guides in the photo paper tray are snug against the edges of the photo paper. Misaligned guides can cause paper detection issues.
3. Clean the Paper Path and Rollers
Clean Paper Feed Rollers:
- While you mentioned the rollers are clean, make sure you use a lint-free cloth dampened with water to wipe the rollers. Let them dry completely before testing again.
Check for Obstructions:
- Inspect the paper path for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the paper jam error.
4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for the HP ENVY Photo 6234.
- Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer and then install the new one.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Neilh68,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Check Printer Firmware
- Update Printer Firmware:
- Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
- Follow the instructions on the HP Support website or use the HP Smart app to update the firmware.
6. Test Different Photo Paper
- Try Different Photo Paper:
- Sometimes the issue might be with the specific type or brand of photo paper you are using. Try using a different type or brand of photo paper to see if the problem persists.
7. Perform a Printer Reset
- Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to resolve the issues with printing photos on your HP ENVY Photo 6234.
If you’ve tried all the above steps and the issue persists, it may be a hardware issue or a more complex problem. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance or to arrange a repair.
