HP Notebook - 15-bs289wm

7100 envy will not print photos due to stating it needs paper loaded.  The photo paper tray is full. What do you do?

It might simply be that the photo paper size and type detected by the printer does not match the photo paper you have selected in your print job setup.

 

First, check that the photo paper you are using is supported

Next,

Try reloading the paper.

 

Reload paper

Open printer drawer > Lift paper from the tray > Replace paper > Wait a few seconds > Close the Tray

Next,

Immediately check the printer control panel for a message to adjust / set the paper size / type

Note the last step to modify / change the paper size / paper type on the Printer Control Panel.

 

OR

If your printer is connected to your network,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to modify / adjust the Tray and Paper settings.

 

What about paper sizes?

 

The Photo Tray might only support one or more small paper sizes.

Check.

Other photo paper sizes, that is, those paper sizes not listed for the photo tray, should be loaded in the main paper tray.

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

 

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

 

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

NOTE:  Not all photo trays support the same paper sizes - "Your" printer might be different from the example.

Next,

Printer Software / Printer Application

 

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software must be installed AND working

OR

HP Smart (Windows) must be installed and working

OR

At the least, your Windows system must have an installed application you can use to print photos.

An example:  Windows Photos

 

The printer software and the HP Smart application require that the paper selections are set up correctly for the current job.

 

What you do -- and how you set up the job -- depends on the program or application you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

NOTE:  If necessary, Select / Choose the Source / Tray as opposed to leaving as "automatic".

NOTES: 

  • Read the Terms of Use document to understand the conditions of using HP Smart products.  For example, in the HP Smart application, find the ToU link in HP Smart > Settings (gear) > About > Click on the link for Terms of Use
  • Read FAQ - including - What are the requirements to set up a printer using the HP Smart app?
  • If using VPN >>Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.
  • Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.  Source: How to scan with an HP printer > FAQ > Why can't I connect my wireless printer or scan over the network?
  • HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.
  • When working through a browser to access HP Smart, be sure you have Cookies enabled.  If cookies are enabled and you are having trouble, clear Cache and Cookies.   And / Or … Try a different browser – assign that browser as the Default. (Note:  Chrome not working?  Use / Assign a different default browser.)
  • Where possible, HP Smart benefits (likes) having the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed.  For example, full driver provides access to Shortcuts and Printing Preferences.
  • “Share” to email – Before using Share, add your sender email address to the Windows Mail application

 

  • Document includes the HP Smart application download links for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues.
    •  FAQ examples: 
      • What are the requirements to use the HP Smart app?
      • Which printers are compatible with the HP Smart app?
      • Why do I need to sign in or create an account to use the HP Smart app features?
      • Which languages does the HP Smart app support?
    • Older versions of the HP Smart app no longer support the required login feature.
    • Update the application to the latest version to access / use HP Smart

Check / Update  >> Every device (computer(s) and mobile) where HP Smart is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).
