I have an Officejet 7500A printer (model E910a, product number C9309A). It's unusable, because when I turn it on, an error message appears:
"Carriage Jam. Open the print-carriage access door, clear the jam, and then touch OK to continue." I've done exactly what the animation said, multiple times, but there is no jam anywhere.
Is there a trick to fixing this? Thanks.

Hi @jameslsnell ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A false carriage jam error on a printer can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check for Obstructions:
- Open the print-carriage access door and visually inspect the carriage path for any obstructions like pieces of paper, labels, or foreign objects.
- Manually move the carriage back and forth to ensure it can move freely along the carriage path.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP support website for your printer model and download any available firmware updates.
Inspect the Carriage Belt:
- Check the carriage belt for any damage or obstructions. Make sure it is properly aligned and not loose.
Clean the Carriage Rail:
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the carriage rail. Dirt or dried ink on the rail can impede the movement of the carriage.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 2-3 minutes.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
Check for Paper Sensor Issues:
- Make sure there are no small pieces of paper or debris near the paper sensors. The sensors are usually located in the paper path.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-

Hello Gaya1239 - Thanks for your reply. I did everything you suggested, very carefully, including downloading and installing the latest firmware update. There are no obstructions anywhere - not in the print-carriage area (accessed by lifting the top), not in the paper feed area (accessed from the back), not in the sheet feeder (at the top left), not in the blank paper feed area (accessed at the front). The print carriage goes back and forth easily and smoothly, all the way left and right when I move it, and also when moved by the motor. Any other suggestions? Any idea how much it would cost to have this fixed by a repair service?
