Welcome to the HP Community.

Short Answer

  1. Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.
  2. Adjust settings in HP Smart Windows > More Settings > Paper type = Brochure or Photo

Longer Answer

Some printers only support Borderless printing on certain paper sizes and certain paper types.

For example, it might not be enough that the "size" is supported, you also have to be using a paper type that supports Borderless printing.  Examples:  Brochure / Photo Paper

Product Specifications for the HP ENVY Photo 6234 All-in-One Printer (K7S21B)

Media sizes supported (metric)
A4; A5; B5; DL; C6; A6

Tray 1: A4: 75 to 90 g/m²; HP envelopes: 75 to 90 g/m²; HP Photo Paper: up to 250 g/m²; HP 10 x 15 cm photo paper: up to 250 g/m²
Media weight supported (U.S. standard)
19 to 23 lb
Borderless printing
Yes (up to 8.5 x 11 in, 216 x 297 mm)

To make it more interesting (and frustrating), the documentation does not always say up front that only certain paper types support Borderless.

That said, there are ways to check.

First, if you have not done so, install the Full Driver printer software so you have access to the full range of features the printer supports.

Next...

  • Load the paper into the printer according to the instructions in the printer User Guide

Reminder:  A6 paper should likely be loaded into the main tray.

Photo trays usually only support the smaller paper size(s).

  • Alert the printer to the paper size and paper type that is loaded in the printer tray.
  •  Adjust the settings in HP Smart (Windows) > More Settings > Paper type = Brochure or Photo paper

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

==============================================================================

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Preparation

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Printer Software Check

Notes

If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software not installed - OR - (still) installed but not working?

NOTE:  If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected,

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software.  (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

Restart the computer and log in

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
  3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
  4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
  5. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

Thank you Dragon_Fur for the prompt Help. That solved my problem totally. I can now print borderless.

Perhaps I am missing something but there seemed little information that came with the printer. No disc and no USB connector as promised. Is that standard these days? Reading the instructions again and in hindsight it may well be there but its hardly clear.

Excellent.

You are welcome.

Yes, it is standard that the printer is shipped without a USB cable.

In the printers I've purchased, there is usually a paper in the box that indicates this is the case.

?

In so much that I am aware:  A printer software "disc" has not been included for years.

True, "the mystery paper" that you apparently did not get / see / keep, should have mentioned where and how to get the software for the printer.

Most of what you need is included at the Printer's homepage.
