Hi @CoolidgeWM ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with the document feeder on your brand-new HP Smart Tank 7602 is not functioning, it could be due to several reasons. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check the Basics

  • Ensure Proper Setup: Confirm that the feeder is correctly installed and aligned.
  • Paper Compatibility: Use paper within the supported size and weight limits as per the printer's manual.
  • Inspect for Obstructions: Check the feeder for any packing materials or debris that may not have been removed during setup.

2. Test the Feeder Mechanism

  • Place a few sheets of paper (not curled or damaged) into the automatic document feeder (ADF).
  • Ensure the paper width guides are properly aligned with the paper edges to prevent skewing or feeding issues.

3. Clean the Feeder Rollers

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the ADF access area and gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or an alcohol-based cleaner.
  • Allow the rollers to dry completely before turning the printer back on.

4. Perform a Feeder Test

  • Use the printer's control panel or HP Smart app to initiate a scan or copy using the ADF.
  • If the printer attempts to pick up paper but fails, listen for any abnormal sounds.

5. Update the Printer Firmware

  • Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date. Check for updates via the HP Smart app or HP's website.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, then plug it back in and power it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
