HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301dw Printer

I spent so much time on setting up this new printer.

After upgrading, firmware, installing software (HP Print and Scan Doctor), I still can't print or copy.

It seems the communication WiFi and USB cable are all good but the printer itself has a proble.

When I made a copy it said "load paper" while the tray was full of new papers. I checked the tray,  covers front and back, and everyting, all are in order. I did't expect for the HP brand new machine. I previous HP printer worked for many years but this model started with a problem from day one. I tried to print from my computer, the printer status showed redy but it didn't print, the printer said "load paper".

Hi @KennyMaran,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to face issues with a brand new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301dw printer. Since you've already tried updating the firmware and using HP Print and Scan Doctor, here are additional troubleshooting steps that may resolve the "Load Paper" issue.

Check Paper Tray Setup

  • Ensure Paper is Properly Loaded: Ensure the paper is correctly aligned in the tray, without exceeding the maximum fill line.
  • Paper Size Settings: Confirm that the printer's paper size settings match the paper you've loaded. This can be done either on the printer’s control panel or in the printer settings on your computer.
  • Tray Detection Issue: Double-check that the paper tray is fully inserted and detected by the printer. Pull out the tray, ensure the guides are snug against the paper, and firmly reinsert it.

Printer Reset

Try performing a basic reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Sensor Obstructions

  • Open the paper tray and inspect the paper feed area for any debris, small bits of paper, or foreign objects that could be blocking the paper sensor.
  • Sometimes dust or misaligned sensors cause the printer to fail to detect the loaded paper.

Update Paper Type Settings

  • Go to the printer’s control panel or software settings and make sure the paper type setting matches what you’re using (e.g., plain paper for regular printing).

Printer Diagnostics Mode

  • Access the printer’s settings menu and look for a diagnostic mode or test page option. This could help in identifying sensor malfunctions or tray issues.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Even though you have already installed the software, reinstalling the drivers might help. Go to the HP support website, download the latest drivers, and reinstall them to rule out any installation errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
