Hi @EVAJOE ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your brand new HP OfficeJet Pro 8122e printer is experiencing a paper jam issue, and the carriage is not moving. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check for Obstructions or Paper Jams

  • Open the front cover of the printer and check for any visible paper stuck in the rollers or the paper path.
  • Gently pull out any stuck paper, being careful not to tear it.
  • Check inside the printer, especially near the carriage area, and remove any small bits of paper that may be obstructing the carriage movement.

3. Inspect the Paper Tray

  • Remove the paper from the tray and ensure the paper is properly aligned. Sometimes misaligned paper can cause a jam or prevent the printer from detecting the correct paper size.
  • Make sure the paper is not curled or damaged, as this can also cause feeding issues.

4. Check the Carriage Area

  • Open the printer’s front cover to expose the carriage.
  • Check if there is any obstruction preventing the carriage from moving freely. Gently move the carriage by hand (if possible) to see if it moves smoothly.

5. Reset the Printer

  • If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, try performing a printer reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the printer from the power outlet.
    • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

6. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Sometimes a firmware update may help resolve unexpected issues. If you are able to connect the printer to your computer, check HP’s website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
