I have an HP 3310 with a broken gear on the paper feed roller at the back of the printer. I can see it, but not access it without taking the whole paper feed mechanism out of the printer. Are there any KBs, videos, or anything, that will tell me how to remove the paper feed mechanism? I can see that it's held in with star screws. but I hesitate to just start removing screws without some idea of where I'm going.
Any help?

Hi @LeeDouglas,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Repairing the paper feed mechanism on an HP 3310 printer can be a bit challenging, especially if you're not familiar with the internal layout. Here’s a general approach you can take to find the information you need.
- Service Manual: HP often provides detailed service manuals for their printers, which include step-by-step disassembly instructions. You can search online for the HP 3310 service manual or user guide. Websites like ManualsLib or HP’s official support page might have the manual available.
- YouTube Tutorials: YouTube can be a great resource for repair videos. Search for terms like “HP 3310 paper feed mechanism repair” or “HP 3310 disassembly” to find relevant videos. Even if there isn’t a specific video for the HP 3310, videos for similar models can often provide useful insights.
General Tips for Disassembly:
- Label and Organize Screws: As you remove screws, label them and keep them organized to make reassembly easier.
- Take Photos: Taking photos during the disassembly process can help you remember where each part goes.
- Be Cautious: Handle internal components carefully to avoid damaging them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Lee, I have the same printer and it started saying ‘paper jam’ about a month ago, but I couldn’t find a jam. I don’t use it much and it still printed a few docs until yesterday, when the paper jam message popped up again. On removing the back cover I discovered half of a broken gear. I’m guessing it’s off the splined section on the shaft in the attached photo. Was this your problem and, if so, did you have any joy repairing / replacing it? Any advice would be appreciated.
