I found my own solution. I bought sheets of 3x5 cards (4 to a sheet). Very simple. Thanks for the response.

Hi @peaslee

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how disappointing this must be when you’ve already got the cards and the printer just won’t feed them. The issue here comes down to media compatibility and tray support on the LaserJet Pro M252.

This printer model supports a range of paper sizes, but unfortunately 3x5-inch index cards are not on the supported list

The minimum custom paper size it can handle is 3 x 5.8 inches, which is slightly longer than your cards. Because of this, the rollers cannot properly grip 3x5 cards in landscape orientation — that’s why they won’t feed.

What you can try:

Check Custom Size Settings

In your print dialog, set a custom paper size slightly larger than 3x5 (for example 3x5.8) to see if the printer accepts it.

Sometimes this workaround tricks the printer into feeding the card.

Use the Multipurpose Tray (Tray 1)

Load only a few cards at a time.

Slide the guides snugly against the edges to help the rollers grip better.

Feed in Portrait Instead of Landscape

Since 3 inches is below the minimum feed width, try turning the card so the 5-inch side feeds first.

This gives the rollers a little more surface to pull the paper.

Alternative Option

If the workaround above still doesn’t work, the M252 may simply not be designed for 3x5 cards. In that case, you might consider using 3x5 sheets on an inkjet printer (which often supports smaller cards) or printing multiple cards on a larger sheet (like 8.5x11) and cutting them down.

Would you like me to walk you through a custom paper setup in Windows 11 print settings so you can test if the 3x5.8 trick works on your printer?

That’s a smart fix 👏 — using perforated 3x5 card sheets avoids the feed-size limitation completely, and it also keeps everything lined up nicely for cutting.
