Photo tray blocked. I don’t use the photo tray. There’s no blockage. I’m ticked. I’ve spent two hours googling fixes and nada. Done them all. Nothing. The noise it makes is hellacious. This printer is two months old. Junk.

Hi @Longhorns4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer’s photo tray is causing issues and you don’t use it, removing or disabling it might be a practical solution. Here's how you can handle this issue with your printer:
**1. Remove the Photo Tray (If Possible)
The ability to remove the photo tray can vary depending on the printer model. Here are general steps for removing or accessing the photo tray:
Turn Off the Printer: Ensure the printer is powered off and unplugged to avoid any damage or electrical issues.
Locate the Photo Tray: Find where the photo tray is located on your printer. This is usually an additional tray or an extension that’s separate from the main paper tray.
Check for Removal Instructions: Refer to your printer’s user manual for specific instructions on removing or accessing the photo tray. Manuals often provide detailed steps for maintenance tasks.
Remove the Tray:
- Slide Out: If the photo tray is designed to be removable, gently slide it out from the printer.
- Release Latches: Some photo trays might have latches or clips that need to be released before removing the tray.
Check for Obstructions: After removing the tray, ensure there are no obstructions or pieces of paper inside the printer that might be causing the issue.
**2. Disable the Photo Tray
If you can’t physically remove the photo tray or prefer to keep it in place, you might be able to disable it in the printer’s settings:
Access Printer Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to the settings or setup menu.
- Look for options related to paper trays or paper handling.
Disable Photo Tray:
- Find the option to disable or configure the photo tray settings. Some printers allow you to set which tray is used by default or disable unused trays.
Save Changes: Save any changes you make to the printer settings.
**3. Perform a Printer Reset
Sometimes, performing a reset can resolve issues with printer components:
- Turn Off the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source.
- Wait: Leave it unplugged for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug It Back In: Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
