HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am attempting to print a #10 envelope with 5055 printer. I empty the tray and load the envelope oriented with the flap up and pointed to the right and close the slider so that it is positioned in the center. I am then prompted to change the paper size in the printer window and I change it to #10 envelope. I created an envelope in Office Libre and specify a #10 envelope. When I attempt to print the print window in Libre has a drop down for paper size and there is no envelope or custom sizes present even though Libre has formatted for a #10 envelope. When I attempt to print using a default letter size the printer produces an error that indicates that there is a mismatch in paper size. I tried the same thing using Wordpad and when formatting page as per the HP video there is no envelope sizes to choose from in the paper size drop down. The drivers for the printer all all updated. How do you print an envelope when there are no envelope sizes to choose from?

You are welcome.

Presumably, the HP full driver printer software works with a multitude of other programs and editing software.

That said, no magic.

Too bad you could not do this in Word Pad.

Meh.  The procedure is fairly complicated so it's only a partial loss.

OK -- Apparently Libre Office cannot detect when a Custom Paper Form has been added to Printing Preferences.

Makes sense...

I'd not run across my Libre Office envelope setup notes -- that the option does not work / is not supported would explain why the examples are not in my archives.  Smiling.

Glad you found someone with access to Word -- that is an easy option.

All Good, then.

Word and Envelopes

Reminder

Word can glitch and think the envelope is not standard.

If that happens, treat the envelope as "Custom" and enter the dimensions.

True - Tray and Paper settings (paper size / type) must be adjusted and correct.

I've created envelopes using different software -- I can't find my notes on having done so using Libre Office.

If I do find the example plates, I'll update the message.

I've used WordPad to create Envelopes -- the process is a bit painful but generally doable, in my opinion.

The printer supports custom sizes -- and likely the creation of a Custom Paper Size form.

Order of events can be important.

Included...

Five Sections How-to + Five sections Examples + References / Resources

Ignore what you don't like, can't use, do not understand.

If not done,

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

1)  Install OR Uninstall / Reinstall the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software

Ask if you need help / instructions.

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

2)  Check / update Printer Properties > Advanced so the Driver:  is pointing at the HP driver and not the Microsoft / IPP class Driver

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

If needful (not done),

3)  Create a Custom Paper Size Form for your #10 envelope

Name it something clever:  Envelope #10

 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

4)  Optional - Printing Preferences - Shortcut

Create a Custom Shortcut for your new custom paper size form

Printing Preferences – Shortcuts / Selections

Windows 11 > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers and scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Printing Preferences

Windows 10 > Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage > Printing Preferences

Next

Tab Printing Shortcuts

Click / Highlight your preferred Shortcut

Click Apply > Click OK to exit

Optional - Additional Setup / Information

Make changes to a Shortcut (Model Dependent)

Select your Shortcut (locked / template or custom) >

Adjust the settings for paper, source (tray), other settings

Check all sub-menus in all Tabs

Click OK to save / leave sub menu

Custom Shortcut

On the main Preferences menu,

Save the edited shortcut or use “Save As” or “Create Custom Shortcut” to save as a new / different file name

Click OK to save the setup

Side Bar: Scan Menu for HP Scan

Open section More >

Check / adjust settings in each sub-section

Click OK to save sub-menu changes

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

5)  Create and Print WordPad document - "Envelope"

Open WordPad

Create your document in the size and shape of your envelope

Remember to set File > Page Setup settings

Select the Tray # (or leave automatic if you trust the settings)

If needful, verify / add the margins.

Note

Margins will likely not be what you want --

Instead margins will be what can be created by WordPad for the paper size and shape.

Try

Left edge =.65 inch

Top and Bottom = 25 inch

Right side (right edge of envelope - orientation landscape) might have to be 1 inch.

Orientation = Landscape

UNcheck Print Page numbers

When ready to print your new (saved) envelope document:

Remember to open, check, update "More Settings"

This is where you select your paper size / type settings.

If you have one, use a previously created and saved Custom Shortcut for your Envelope #10

If you don't have one, open template "Everyday Printing" and edit the settings in each relevant tab.

Thank you Deagon-fur for the reply. Unfortunately there is no option in Office Libre for a custom paper size when you bring up the printing menu and select the HP printer or in Wordpad when defining the paper size. I believe it is using the settings from the default printer (HP Envoy) so there is no way to either select an envelope or define a custom paper size since its not available in the HP 5055.  I don't understand why HP has a defined paper size fora  Japanese Post Card but not for a #10 Envelope. I was able to make it work on someone else's computer that has Word installed.  Thanks again for the suggestions.
