HP ENVY 6020 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Hi all

I'm trying to print on card stock on my Envy 6020 printer but it's messing it up big time. Prints are coming out not only skewed but wrongly positioned - up to 6-8mm from the front edge. This makes double-sided printing impossible.

The card is 250gsm scored (to fold to A5). This is really annoying as it's eating up my cards which are very expensive!

Any help would be appreciated please.

Now you tell me!!

So if I buy some 200 gsm card it will feed and print in perfect register on the Envy?

HP Recommended

@Baldeagle611

You are welcome.

Index paper at 200 gsm / 110lb is supported by the printer.

Caveats

You must be able to select the paper type -- or at least something similar -- in Tray and Paper

(Re)load the paper you intend to use according to the instructions in the  User Guide - HP ENVY 6000 All-in-One series

Next,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to check / adjust paper size and type

=========================================

Printer - EWS - Tray and Paper

Try using EWS to view / adjust the default paper size and type settings in the printer.

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section How do I manually assign an IP address to my printer?  Items 1-2

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

Reminder

HP Smart Mobile requires that paper size / type is adjusted before the content is opened to be printed.

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

EWS provides access and control to check / adjust Tray and Paper Settings.

Note

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray.

Custom size?

If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”, look for the setting to do so in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used

General Example - EWS - Tray and Paper

Next,

=========================================

Printer - Job Configuration

You must be able to select a usable paper size / type in the application / software you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

I do not have a MacOS system in the home office.

The following example is for Windows -- some of the information might be useful even as the layout is perhaps not similar to your setup...

General Example - Adobe Reader - Booklet

I take it EWS is a new idea then? Sounds like a very complicated way of printing a document!

Surely the print settings in InDesign or Acrobat are perfectly adequate for the task?

HP Recommended

@Baldeagle611

No, EWS is not a "new idea".

Not new -- just a way to interact with a printer that does not have a full service printer control panel.

The printer must be aware of the default paper size and type loaded in the tray.

The application must have the appropriate paper size / type selected during the current job setup.

Printers that lack a text-input-capable printer control panel can use the Embedded Web Server to check and adjust settings on the printer.

(Re)Load the paper

  User Guide - HP ENVY 6000 All-in-One series >> Starting on Page 18

Next,

Check / change the paper size / type, it is necessary that the printer is aware of the change.

Not sure what your'e saying here:

So the print dialogues rom Adobe applications isn't good enough?

What is a 'full-service control panel'?  Are you talking about the front of the actual machine or on the computer?

Looks like those links are broken btw.

Oh, dear, indeed.

Smiling.

I feel like we have done what is possible with the subjects at hand.

Edits / Updates

There is a known issue opening HP manuals using  Chrome - HP is aware of the issue.

When the problem is resolved, it will start working as expected.

For now:  Try using a different browser for manuals and other HP website links that fail to open.

Adobe is a large subject --

I have a moderate amount of exposure to the tools, methods, and job types.

There are many things I don't know.

I do not have access to Adobe Pro.

I have experience in Windows using Adobe Reader DC, including a few of the extra tool sets in Adobe, several print job types (Size, Poster, Multiple, Booklet), and those paper sizes and paper types as are supported on my own printers (Regular Paper, Thick, Brochure, Index Card).  I've printed CAD drawings, posters and poster sections, Booklets, two sided, multiple pages per sheet, business cards, labels, PDF as image, regular PDF, and password protected documents.

That said, all of this has been done in Windows and not using any of the Adobe Pro products.

Most of the detail work and specialty printing has been done (most recently) using an HP OfficeJet Pro 9025.

I have an Envy 7855 that, while not the equal of the OfficeJet pro printers I've used, is adequate for many tasks.

All said and done -- we are not using the same tools, the same software, or even the same hardware.

I doubt my perspective is useful to you.

Original Content - Minor edits to stack / clarify intent

  • True:  In some cases, it is  not enough to just depend on the application / software to set the paper size / type.
  • The printer must be aware of the default paper size and paper type that is loaded in the tray.  In the case of a printer where the paper size / type cannot be modified using the printer control panel, use EWS.
  • The user manual includes how to check update the paper size / type information on the printer when you change the paper.  Essentially, in the case of your printer, the instructions simply say to use the Embedded Web Server for Tray and Paper settings.

===========================================================

Where supported, EWS is a standard method to check / adjust many of the settings on the printer.

True: What is?

Doesn't sound like you are that familiar with Adobe Systems?

If not, then you really ought to be if you're dealing with issues with printers and their output.

If your links don't work with chrome then there's a problem that you really need to address!

Oh dear.
