HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 All-in-One Printer

For the last few hours I have been trying to rectify a cariage jam on my HP 9020 printer.

I have used virtual assistant, I have spoken to (at length) with a support agent to no avail.

There are no paper jams. All feeds are clear.

The carriage will not move from the left of its run.

Printer shows paper jam but I understand that this could also apply to carriage jam.

I have tried to carry out a factory reset - but cannot access the system "wheel" as I cannot clear the message of "paper jam".

I am loath to throw the product out as it has about £100 worth of ink.

Help please.

Hi @howard182 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken several troubleshooting steps, but let's see if we can find a solution together.

Here are a few additional things you can try:

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a couple of minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on again. Sometimes, this simple step can reset the printer and resolve issues like carriage jams.
  • Check for Obstructions: Even if there's no paper jam, there could be other obstructions blocking the carriage's movement. Use a flashlight to thoroughly inspect the printer's interior, especially around the carriage path, for any foreign objects that might be causing the jam.
  • Manually Move the Carriage: With the printer turned off and unplugged, gently move the carriage along its path. Be cautious not to force it if you encounter resistance. This can sometimes dislodge any stuck components and free up the carriage.
  • Reset the Printer: Since you're unable to access the system menu due to the "paper jam" message, try performing a hard reset. Depending on your printer model, this might involve pressing and holding specific buttons while powering on the printer. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a hard reset.

Thanks very much for your response.

Unfortunately my 9020 can only be reset from the displayed system wheel.

If I can solve the problem, I will let you know.
