I keep getting the message that the original is stuck in the document feeder but I have checked and there is no paper stuck in there. I've done all the recommended fixes to no avail. It must be a sensor or something. Help!

Hi @Coleencat,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're receiving a persistent error indicating that the original document is jammed in the document feeder of your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018, despite confirming there’s no paper stuck, it’s likely an issue with the sensors or some minor debris obstructing the feed mechanism.
Here are some steps to help resolve the problem.
Inspect the Document Feeder: Open the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) cover and thoroughly check for any small pieces of paper or foreign objects that may not be immediately visible. Sometimes, tiny scraps can cause sensors to trigger a jam alert.- Clean the ADF Rollers: Dust and debris on the rollers can also cause feeding issues. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers inside the ADF. Make sure to let them dry completely before reassembling the feeder.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help reset any erroneous error messages.
- Check the Sensor: If you suspect that the sensor is faulty, carefully inspect it for any obstructions or dirt that might prevent it from functioning correctly. Cleaning around the sensor gently can sometimes help.
- Run Diagnostics: HP provides a printer diagnostic tool that can help identify and troubleshoot common issues. You can download and run this tool from the HP website to see if it can detect the error causing the jam message.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Coleencat,
Thank you for your response,
The sensors in the HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 are primarily located in the following areas.
- Paper Path Sensors: These sensors are positioned along the paper path to detect the presence of paper and ensure proper paper feeding. They are usually found near the paper input tray, inside the printer, and at the output area.
- Ink Cartridge Sensors: Located inside the printer near the ink cartridges, these sensors monitor the presence and status of the cartridges, detecting if they are installed correctly and whether they have sufficient ink.
- Scanner Sensors: The scanner area has sensors that help detect the position of the document being scanned. These include a glass strip that reads the document as it moves through the scanner.
- Door Sensors: These sensors are located on the printer doors (like the front cover) and detect whether the doors are closed securely. If a door is open, it may prevent printing or scanning.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
