My newly purchase HP Laser MFP178nf multifunction scanner/printer worked perfectly when copying or printing single-sided documents. However, after reversing a printer sheet and replacing it for printing on its reverse side, the paper emerged folded over in a corner with creases over the entire document. I could find no foreign bodies or jammed paper in the machine. I solved the problem by performing a hard reset by:
- disconnecting the printer by removing the power lead WITH THE PRINTER STILL SWITCHED ON.
Waiting for 3 minutes
Pressing the ON/OF power button for 30 seconds
Reconnecting the power lead from a wall socket direct into the machine - NOT via extender or power filter.
Switched back on and worked perfectly on both single- and double-sided printing.
Perhaps I should add that I first operated the printer after unboxing and removing adhesive tape and other items as indicated on the setup diagrams quite successfully. However, after printing a few documents a narrow strip of cardboard fell out which had writing on it to say that "it should exit the machine when printing the first page". - which obviously didn't happen! This is not mentioned on the setup diagram sheet.
