If you have not done so, add the following to your checkpoints...
Size makes a difference in this case - the photo tray supports 4x6 inch (10x15cm) paper but not likely any other size.
What?
For those reading >> Some photo trays are marked to support 5x7 (13x18cm) photo paper in addition to the 4x6 inch.
The printer must be aware of the paper loaded in the tray -- Tray and Paper Management
The paper must be of a supported type for the Source (tray) -- Photo Paper
The paper must be loaded correctly in the tray -- Print side down, narrow sides front and back
The paper must be of sufficient quality -- paper need not be HP paper but it must be a high grade equivalent.
The paper size and the paper type Settings must be compatible.
For example,
Do not choose Paper Size = 10x15cm Index
with
Paper Type Photo Paper
This combination is not compatible
In some cases, it is better to select the Source (tray) in the application / software as opposed to leaving as "automatic".
The printer must be clean and ready to print
The particular application or software is not likely "at fault" -- Job Settings can be rechecked for accuracy and completeness.
