Hi,  I have never before had a paper jam with my 4650, until now.  Was printing fine, and then suddenly got repeated paper jams while trying to print a document from my laptop.  Nothing has changed regarding my laptop.  Same O/S, same software, etc.  I opened the printer and removed the mangled piece of paper.  Repeat print,  jammed again.   Still can't see why it would be jamming.

Then, using the menu screen on the printer, I printed out several 'test pages'  (ink status, printer status, etc.).  No jams.

Go back to print from my laptop,  it jams.   Clear, print sample pages, works.

Rinse, Repeate, etc.

I'm stumped!!!  This couldn't happen at a worse time as I have some time sensiitive documents that I need to print over the weekend.  Thinking about just ordering a new printer (this one is 3 years old or so) this eveninig and hope it comes tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!!!

Hi @rlwremo

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP 4650 printer is experiencing a paper jam issue when printing from your laptop, but not when printing test pages directly from the printer. This could be related to several factors, such as specific settings, the document being printed, or software conflicts. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Paper Type and Quality

  • Ensure that you're using the correct type of paper for the print job (i.e., regular printer paper for most documents).
  • Sometimes, paper quality or texture can affect how the printer handles the paper. For example, thick, glossy, or heavy paper can cause jams if it's not supported by the printer.

2. Check the Print Settings

  • Print Settings on Your Laptop: Sometimes, print settings can affect how the paper is pulled through. Ensure that the print settings on your laptop are configured correctly for the type of document you're printing.
    • When you print from your laptop, double-check that the paper size and paper type are correctly set.
    • Change the print quality to "Normal" (if it's set to "Best" or "High Quality") to reduce the risk of paper jams.
  • Try printing in a different format (e.g., PDF vs. Word document) to see if a certain file type is causing the issue.

3. Examine Paper Path and Rollers

  • Even though you're not seeing a jam when printing test pages, paper feed rollers or the paper path may still have debris, dirt, or dust that is causing issues when printing documents.
  • Check for any obstructions or foreign objects in the paper path, including tiny pieces of paper or dust.
  • Clean the rollers inside the printer. Sometimes, the rollers can become worn or dirty, causing the paper to not feed properly when printing from a specific source.
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Gently wipe the rollers with a soft, lint-free cloth, lightly dampened with water.

I hope this helps.
