Hello, I have a HP DeskJet 2855e and I wanted to know if this printer supports transfer paper to make shirts without breaking. I haven’t seen anything on the internet specifying if this printer allows it or not.

Hi @Keilyn,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
The HP DeskJet 2855e printer can support printing on transfer paper, but there are some considerations and limitations to keep in mind to avoid damaging the printer:
Key Points for Using Transfer Paper with HP DeskJet 2855e
Paper Type Compatibility:
- HP DeskJet printers, including the 2855e, are generally designed to handle standard paper types like plain paper, photo paper, and envelopes. However, they can also print on some specialty papers like iron-on transfer paper designed for inkjet printers.
Ink Type:
- The printer uses dye-based color inks and pigment-based black inks, which are generally suitable for transfer papers intended for light or white fabrics. Ensure that the transfer paper you choose specifies compatibility with dye or pigment inks.
Thickness and Paper Handling:
- Transfer papers are thicker than standard paper. It’s important to check the maximum paper thickness (usually around 0.3 mm for HP DeskJets). If the transfer paper is too thick, it could cause paper jams or damage the printer.
- Always load the transfer paper one sheet at a time to prevent jams.
Printer Settings:
- Use the correct settings in the print dialog:
- Set the paper type to Specialty Paper or Photo Paper.
- Set print quality to Best to ensure the highest print quality for your designs.
- If the printer offers a Mirror Image or Flip Horizontal option, use this setting when printing designs for iron-on transfers.
Test First:
- It’s recommended to test with a single sheet to ensure compatibility and see how the printer handles the paper.
- Check for any unusual noises or paper feed issues during the test print.
Avoid Overuse:
- Regular use of transfer paper can put extra strain on the printer's rollers and feed mechanisms. Use sparingly and ensure to clean the rollers periodically to maintain print quality.
Warranty Considerations:
- Using third-party specialty papers like transfer paper may not be covered under HP's warranty, so any printer damage resulting from such use would be the user's responsibility.
If you follow these guidelines, your HP DeskJet 2855e should handle transfer paper reasonably well for occasional use, like making shirts. Always choose transfer paper compatible with inkjet printers, and monitor the printer’s performance closely when using non-standard media.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
