HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Receiving an E4 paper jam error, but no jam.  I have unplugged printer and restarted it, but still get the same error.  Also, paper feeds down like it is going to print and a portion of paper comes out of printer and goes back in.  Any ideas?

Hi @Judy997,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the E4 error on your HP DeskJet 2755e indicates a paper jam, but as you've noticed, this can sometimes be a false jam, especially if the paper feeds partially and then retracts.

Here’s how to resolve it:

1. Turn Off and Unplug the Printer

  • Power off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the wall and disconnect all cables.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.

2. Check All Jam Locations

Use a flashlight and inspect these areas carefully:

  • Input tray
  • Output tray
  • Cartridge access area
  • Bottom cleanout door (flip the printer and open the cleanout door underneath)
  • Rear access panel (if available)

Even a tiny torn piece of paper or a foreign object can trigger the E4 error.

3. Open the Cleanout Door (Underneath the Printer)

  • Turn the printer over while holding the scanner lid and input tray.
  • Open the cleanout door by pulling the tabs on both sides.
  • Remove any debris or paper bits.
  • Close the door until both latches snap into place.

4. Reload Paper Properly

  • Fan the paper stack to prevent sticking.
  • Load it neatly into the input tray.
  • Make sure the paper guides are snug but not tight.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Press the Cancel button to clear the error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
