macOS 12.0 Monterey

HP Envy 5532 connected to MacBook running MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1.

When printing from PHOTOS app Kodak 180gsm A4 photo paper feeds fine and photo prints as expected.

When printing a document from Pages (including hi-res photos on same paper. Printing starts, paper is taken from paper feed and print heads start moving but the paper does not feed through the paper channel and only a blank page is produced from the print process. Even manually selecting Glossy Photo Paper in the print options does not resolve the problem. Printing onto regular paper works with no problem.

Hi @RogerH5905,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP ENVY 5532 e-All-in-One Printer is having trouble feeding photo paper when printing from Pages, but it works fine for photos from the Photos app.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Paper Settings in Pages:

  • When printing from Pages, make sure you have selected the correct paper type and size in the print dialog. Sometimes, even if you select Glossy Photo Paper, other settings might need adjustment.
  • Go to File > Print, then click on the Show Details button. Ensure that the paper type matches the photo paper you are using and that the correct paper size is selected.

Update Printer Driver:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed for macOS Sonoma. Visit the HP website to download the most recent drivers for your printer model.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes a simple reset can resolve printing issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Paper Feed Path:

  • Make sure there are no obstructions or paper jams in the feed path. Gently clean any dust or debris that might be affecting the paper feed.

Paper Compatibility:

  • Verify that the Kodak 180gsm A4 photo paper is compatible with your printer. While it should work, some printers can be picky about paper thickness and type.

Print a Test Page:

  • Try printing a test page from the printer settings to ensure that the printer itself is functioning properly.

Use HP Smart App:

  • If you haven't already, try printing from the HP Smart app, which sometimes handles print settings better than native macOS print dialogs.

Adjust Print Quality:

  • In the print dialog, try adjusting the print quality settings. Sometimes setting the print quality to 'High' or 'Best' can help resolve issues with photo paper.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your help.

I downloaded the printer tools from the website and performed paper feed and back smear cleaning and the problem appears to have been resolved.

The issue likely stems from a misalignment between the paper type selected in Pages and what the printer expects. Ensure Kodak 180gsm A4 is selected in both Pages and the printer settings. If the issue persists, try updating printer drivers or resetting the printing system in macOS.

Hi 🙂 If your HP Envy 5532 won’t feed photo paper, first ensure you’re using the correct paper type and size recommended for the printer. Check the paper tray to make sure the paper is loaded correctly, and avoid overloading it. Clean the paper feed rollers by turning off the printer, unplugging it, and gently wiping the rollers with a lint-free cloth. Try using a different brand or batch of photo paper in case the paper itself is causing the issue. If the problem persists, updating the printer firmware or resetting the printer might help. also you can contact CS email for help.
