My HP Envy 5643 shows a paper jam I have looked everywhere in this printer and I cannot find any jams.  I looked inside and underneath and I still cannot find anything.  I press ok and it goes back to the main screen as if it was fixed and after a minute it shows paper jam screen again.  Can anyone help me with this issue?

Hi @rmbjay ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing a paper jam issue with your HP ENVY 5643 e-All-in-One Printer, even when there is no visible jam, could be caused by several factors, including small fragments of paper, misaligned rollers, or a sensor error. Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Double-Check for Paper Jams

Front and Rear Access Areas:

  • Open the front access door and inspect the print path for any paper pieces.
  • Remove the rear access door (or duplexer) and check for obstructions in the rollers.

Underneath the Printer:

  • Tilt the printer gently and look for any stuck fragments of paper.

Paper Tray:

  • Remove the paper tray and inspect it for debris or torn pieces of paper.

2. Clean the Rollers

Unplug the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.

Clean Rollers:

  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers inside the printer and on the rear access door/duplexer.
  • Gently rotate the rollers while cleaning to ensure all surfaces are addressed.

Let Dry:

  • Allow the rollers to dry completely before reassembling the printer.

3. Check Paper Quality and Loading

  • Paper Stack:
    • Ensure the paper stack is even and free of curls, tears, or wrinkles.
  • Paper Guide Alignment:
    • Adjust the paper guides in the tray so they align snugly with the paper without bending it.
  • Correct Paper Type:
    • Verify that the printer is configured for the type of paper you're using (standard, photo, etc.).

4. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle:
    • Disconnect the power cable and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the cable and turn on the printer.

5. Inspect for Sensor or Hardware Issues

Sensor Cleaning:

  • Dust or debris can block sensors. Use a small, clean brush or compressed air to clean around the paper path sensors.

Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date via the HP Smart app or the HP Support website.

Hardware Check:

  • If the issue persists, the sensor or rollers may need professional servicing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
