Hello, The printer says theres a jam but there isnt one. Ive run power cycles and attempted a reset but to no avail. I bought the printer a day or two before it started happening. Before the print jam, I only printed photos using canon photo paper.

Is there a way to fix this?

@Dransom, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP printer is displaying a paper jam error when there is no actual jam present, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Check for Any Obstructions:

  • Open all possible access doors on the printer to look for any small pieces of paper or other debris that might be causing the sensor to think there's a jam.

Verify the Paper Path:

  • Remove any paper from the main tray and ensure the paper path is clear. Make sure there is no paper or objects blocking the path.

Inspect the Paper Sensor:

  • Sometimes the paper sensor could be obstructed or slightly misaligned. Ensure the sensor is clear of debris and any misalignment is corrected. Move the printer away from direct sunlight, as direct light can interfere with certain types of sensors.

Reload Paper:

  • Make sure the paper is loaded properly, without being too tightly packed. Verify that the paper-width guides are not pressing too tightly against the paper.

Use Compatible Paper:

  • Verify that you are using paper types and sizes that are compatible with your printer as listed in the printer specifications. For best results, use HP-designed paper.

Try Different Paper:

  • If you were using a specific type of photo card or paper, try with regular or HP-designed paper to see if the error persists, as some photo papers might not be compatible or could be the wrong thickness.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still turned on and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back in and restart the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP support website to check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model, as sometimes updates can resolve recurring issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
