Hi @HELPME473,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the "photo tray block error" on your HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer typically indicates that the printer's photo tray is either not properly seated, blocked by something, or there is a problem with the tray's sensors.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check the Photo Tray Alignment:
- Open the photo tray and remove any paper.
- Ensure that there are no obstructions or debris in the tray area.
- Reinsert the photo tray securely. It should click into place without any resistance.
2. Inspect the Tray and Printer for Obstructions:
- Check the photo tray and the printer for any small bits of paper, foreign objects, or debris that might be causing the blockage.
- Clean the tray and surrounding areas with a lint-free cloth to ensure no dust or debris is interfering with the tray mechanism.
3. Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the tray sensor and clear the error.
4. Update Firmware and Drivers: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer’s firmware and drivers are up-to-date. Go to the HP support website, search for your printer model, and download any available updates.
5. Run the Printer's Self-Test:
- Use the printer's control panel to run a self-test or a photo tray alignment test. This might recalibrate the printer and resolve the issue.
6. Check Printer Settings:
- Ensure that the printer settings are set correctly for the photo tray. Sometimes, incorrect settings can cause the printer to not recognize the tray properly.
7. Check the Tray Sensors:
- If the error persists, the issue might be with the tray sensors. You can gently clean the sensors with a soft, dry cloth. The sensors are typically located in the tray slot within the printer.
