HP Envy pro 6400 wont pick up HP photo paper

This printer has driven me mad from the moment I bought it but this has got worse recently..  It wont pick up the A4 photo paper properly so it either tries to print on nothing or starts too early so it cuts the top off the print and leaves a 2cm white area at the bottom.  It will sometimes be okay if I only put a couple of sheets of paper in but more often than not its wonky.  I have wasted so many pieces of photo paper and print quota but all customer services do is go through all the operating system options when it is clearly a mechanical feed problem.  Also the back of the paper is also covered in marks from the rollers.

I have looked in the printer and there are no bits or obstructions.  I'm at the stage of considering getting a completely different make printer as its driving me nuts! Has anyone come across this and managed to sort it? Thanks

whats the gsm of the paper, i had same issue on 250gsm, went down to 180gsm and its a lot better. though also be careful what producer you get from, kodak seems ok but ive recently tried off brand and the machine keeps on thinking the tray is empty.
