Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a refurbished HP Laserjet Pro M270dx a little over a year ago, it worked perfectly until I moved it from my office to my home, I transported it in my vehicle and the paper tray fell out.  When I connected the printer and tried to print a document, I would not pick up any paper, with the Print Error Add Paper, and also made a loud grinding noise as the gears sounded like they were jammed.  I checked for paper jams, cleaned all the rollers, made sure it was on a hard surface...even replaced the toner cartridges

Hi @jmeckert,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw has developed a mechanical issue, possibly due to the move. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly fix the problem.

Check Paper Tray and Feed Rollers:

  • Ensure the paper tray is properly seated and that it is not damaged. Sometimes, if the tray is not correctly inserted, the paper might not feed properly.
  • Inspect the paper feed rollers for any visible damage or debris. Clean them again if necessary using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Inspect for Internal Damage:

  • Open the printer and check for any internal parts that may have been dislodged or damaged during the move. Pay special attention to the gears and rollers.
  • Look for any broken or loose parts that might be causing the grinding noise.

Check the Pickup Roller and Separation Pad:

  • The pickup roller and separation pad are responsible for feeding paper into the printer. If these are worn out or misaligned, the printer might not pick up paper correctly.
  • Replace these parts if they appear worn or damaged. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to replace these parts.

Update Firmware:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve issues related to paper handling. Check the HP support website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

Perform a Printer Diagnostic Test:

  • Use the printer's control panel to perform a diagnostic test. This can help identify specific issues with the printer hardware.

Note:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct type and size of paper recommended for your printer.
  • Avoid overloading the paper tray, as this can cause feeding issues.
  • Make sure the printer is placed on a stable, flat surface to avoid any movement or vibrations that might affect its operation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
