There are no shortage of posts on this 59.C0 phony printer jam error. Suggestions to reboot and unplug and reboot and unplug are of no use. Can this machine be repaired? Is it hardware, software or what? I've only used original HP toners.
This printer is seven years old and I can replace it for $320 at Costco, so it's not worth spending a lot of money fixing it unless the fix is easy and cheap.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi @rdbuelow,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The 59.C0 error on HP printers typically indicates a problem with the printer's fuser unit. The fuser is responsible for fixing toner onto the paper by applying heat, and issues with it can lead to paper jams and error messages.
Here are a few steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.
- Inspect for Jammed Paper: Even if there's no visible paper jam, there could be small shreds of paper stuck inside the printer. Carefully check all areas of the printer, including the input and output trays, as well as the fuser area.
- Reset the Printer: Sometimes, a simple reset can clear temporary errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on again.
- Check Fuser Unit: If you're comfortable with it, you can inspect the fuser unit for any visible damage or obstructions. Make sure the fuser roller is clean and not damaged.
- Update Firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates from HP can address known issues with error messages like this. Check HP's support website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Alden4:
Thank you for your reply. I read numerous suggestions and tried them all: Power off, power on. Unplug and wait and re-plug. I doubt the "jam" is real because after sitting overnight, it printed a "demo page" and four more pages from my PC before showing the same error code. I can't see how it would print 4-5 pages and then fail again if it were jammed. The jam is always a single sheet that I can easily be retrieved from the back/bottom after removing the tray.
I also rotated paper and I'm pretty sure that is not the problem either
I do not know what the fuser unit is but both my wife and I inspected the bottom and back with the tray removed and the back hatch open. No paper, no obvious other impediments were seen. As it warms up, it seems to do worse.
I doubt a 7-year-old unit (but with very light usage) is worth spending repair time and money on when I can replace it with an M283cdw for $319.
I always purchased original HP toner cartridges and had recently replaced the yellow.
After the error appeared, I decided to try replacing the other two. So, the printer is 100/100/100/60 percent which, given the situation, was a colossal waste of money especially since the M283 apparently takes a different cartridge ... planned obsolescence?
Thanks again and if you have any other suggestions, I'll be happy to try them.
