Hi @GRADDRAKE,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that has a paper feed issue.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

I was not able to follow the steps for updating the printer's firmware...despite great effort and step-following, and losing patience with myself, I did not find that place to accomplish that. Paper continues to not feed, and the "out of paper" message continues to appear on the printer's screen. I'll clean the rollers next. Any additional help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thank you!

I retried the recommended steps today without success again. I cleaned the rollers too. The paper continues to move through the and gets jammed each time. Message on the printer screen regularly reads that tray is out of paper--of course, NOT. I understand that the printer is out of warranty; but I am looking for more guidance before I toss this very good unit to the curb THANK YOU!

This recommended series of steps were tried but with unsuccessful results. Paper occasionally feeds part way through; then jams leading to great difficulty to remove. The "out of paper" message continues to appear on the printer screen.
I have had this printer for over 4 years and have enjoyed its usage very much until it suddenly presented the problem described. Do you have any other suggestions? Live product support cannot help me because printer is out of warranty--ugh! BTW the rollers on my printer roll, which are light light light gray--not a deep gray as seen in the video, for whatever this might be worth; they just do not grab the paper and the window message appears. Thank you for any additional help you can give me!!!!

Final question here about my ongoing paper feeding issue with my 3830....a new message appears on my printer window:"Carriage Jam" above instructions to remove the jam. When I open the front doors, I don't see paper jammed there (of course because as you will see reported in my previous dialogue with you, that I have not been able to get the clean rollers to feed paper through despite tips to remedy offered by you. What I do see off to the left side where to the carriage of ink travels, is a small bent plastic, white w/print hanging down that is touched by the traveling carriage to the left. It does not appear that the moving carriage gets hung up there; but it does touch it before returning the right side, followed by the "carriage jam" message on the screen. See picture attached. Finally here, in your judgement, is what I described, an issue that is now more serious and not economically repairable considering the age of my unit? THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your patience with my ongoing posts about this issue with my printer!
