Hi @DianneLGTB ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you might have a carriage jam or paper jam that's causing the issue. Here’s how you can try to fix it:
1. Check for Paper Jams:
- Turn Off the Printer: Ensure the printer is powered off and unplugged.
- Open the Printer: Open the front cover or the paper tray area, depending on where the paper path is located.
- Remove Any Jammed Paper: Gently pull out any visible paper that might be jammed. Be careful not to tear the paper.
- Check the Rear Area: Some printers have a rear access panel for clearing paper jams. Open it and check for any paper there as well.
2. Check for Carriage Jam:
- Turn Off the Printer: As before, make sure the printer is off and unplugged.
- Open the Printer: Open the front cover to access the cartridge area.
- Inspect the Carriage: Look for any obstructions or paper pieces that might be blocking the cartridge movement.
- Move the Carriage: Gently try to move the carriage from side to side. It should move smoothly. If it's stuck, check for any obstacles or foreign objects.
- Check the Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed and not causing any obstruction.
3. Power Cycle the Printer:
- Plug the Printer Back In: After checking for jams, plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Run a Printer Test: Check if the error message has cleared. Try printing a test page to ensure everything is working correctly.
4. Reset the Printer:
- Perform a Hard Reset: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
