I'm using the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, I keep getting the "Carriage Jam" error, and can't print anything. I have followed along with every single video and web page on how to officially fix this problem to no avail. There are no paper jams anywhere in any part of the printer, the ink cartridges are in their correct slots and secure, and I am able to move the carriage back and forth in the printer. What keeps happening is when I click "ok" to tell the printer that I've cleared the non-existent obstruction, after a few seconds the carriage will move a few inches to the left, then back to where it was, then it gives me the error again, every single time. The kicker is that it will do this no matter where the carriage is resting in the printer, and it never gets stuck on anything specifically, it just slides to the left a little bit, then goes back and gives me the error. Please help ;-;

Hi @Collin64,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing a carriage jam error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer, there are several steps you can follow to resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. This will ensure your safety while working on the printer.
- Open the ink cartridge access door. The carriage is the component that holds the ink cartridges.
- Check for any obstructions or debris that may be blocking the carriage's path. This could include bits of paper, tape, or other foreign objects. Carefully remove any obstructions you find.
- Move the carriage manually. Gently grasp the carriage on both sides and try to move it from side to side. If it moves freely, it's a good sign. However, if it's stuck or doesn't move easily, continue troubleshooting.
- Check the carriage path for any loose or damaged parts. Look for any broken or dislodged plastic pieces that may be causing the jam.
- Remove the paper path cover, which is usually located at the back of the printer. This will give you better access to the paper path and allow you to clear any obstructions that may be causing the jam.
- Gently remove any jammed paper. Look for small pieces of torn paper that may be stuck in the printer. Be careful not to tear the paper while removing it.
- After removing any obstructions, close all doors and covers securely.
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on. Allow the printer to go through its startup process and check if the carriage jam error message still appears.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
