HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Help! My Officejet Pro 8740 suddenly decided to stop feeding paper from Tray 1. Paper feeds fine from Tray 2. When I pull Tray 1 out of the printer, the printer display does not register this condition. When I pull out Tray 2, the printer informs me that Tray 2 empty or open."

I cannot seem to resolve this issue with Tray 1. I have performed hard resets, reinstalled software, etc. Nothing works. I can hear the Tray 1 paper rollers operating, but the paper simply won't feed anymore (very sudden event), and the printer eventually throws a "paper jam" error message,, and of course there is no paper jam. I am hesitant to clean the print rollers because the paper draw from Tray 1 happened after numerous successful prints from Tray 1 and then this issue commenced. Very strange...

I suspect a problem with the printer recognizing Tray 1, especially since the printer no longer responds when Tray 1 is pulled out. It's like Tray 1 does not exist anymore. Also, I believe that the trays are supposed to activate the springs under the metal plate at the front bottom of the tray, to help lift the paper into a feed position. Maybe this function is not working on my Tray 1...??

Any assistance is very much appreciated.
